Mona Eltahawy arrested after painting over American Freedom Defense Initiative poster that equates Muslims with savages

The poster states: "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man." Between two Stars of David, it adds: "Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."

"Mona, do you think you have the right to do this?" Eltahawy is asked. "I do actually," Eltahawy replies, adding: "I think this is freedom of expression, just as [the ad] is freedom of expression."

As the scuffle continues two police officers appear to then arrest Eltahawy, who says: "This is what happens in America when you non-violently protest."

Eltahawy, who has written for this paper, was later charged with "criminal mischief" and "graffiti".

The Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) had originally ruled it would not permit the posters because they were demeaning, but was compelled to take the $6,000 (£3,700) ad after Geller's group went to court.

Last month US district court judge Paul Engelmayer ruled that it is protected speech under the first amendment.

"Our hands are tied," New York subway spokesman Aaron Donovan said. "Under our existing ad standards as modified by the injunction, the MTA is required to run the ad."

The posters have attracted widespread condemnation including from Jewish figures. Among those who have spoken out against them is Rabbi Rachel Kahn-Troster, of Rabbis for Human Rights — North America, who wrote for CNN online: "As a rabbi, I find the ads deeply misguided and disturbing … The coded message makes clear who the savages are: those who support jihad, which in Geller's mind includes all Muslims. She has called Islam 'an extreme ideology, the most radical and extreme ideology on the face of the Earth'.

The article is right; this ad will offend many Americans but not Muslims. It is actually poorly phrased. I could have done it better for them, LOL!

We have reached a point where, due to the advent of alternative media, most Americans are no longer living in media-zombie land. If they, for instance, see 9/11 placed side by side with the photo of OBL, their reaction is to puke because they now know the truth. Their brain had been so bombarded 24/7 with falsehood that they felt like going out and killing somebody. They get so fed up with Israel after sacrificing so many lives and going broke fighting wars for the Zionist state, not to mention 9/11; Obama would rather meet with Letterman for a few laughs than meet the warmongering Netanyahu.

This ad can no longer fool the American people. Israel can no longer hide behind the charade of the holocaust because, for one, we live in a different age where the memory of the holocaust has faded in time. Whenever we speak of the holocaust, what comes to mind is what we see on television now…the brutal oppression of the Palestinians by the demons of Israel.

The exception that hides the rule 

This ad's second most visible aspect, immediately connected to the first, is its astonishing vulgarity. That vulgarity in effect and unwillingly mimics Zionism - stealing other people's homeland and crying uncle! By incitement to murder, by encouraging ethnic cleansing, by being associated with a vulgar Zionist who has been an inspiration to the European mass murderer, Anders Breivik, this ad stages a particular brand of American Zionism appropriately placed where usually advertisements for Calvin Klein underwear or "Gentlemen's clubs" and other similar commercials appear. 

By thus commercializing the Zionist cause, it places it squarely within the visual regime of loutish consumerism - where it now squarely belongs. It thrives on mimicking Zionism in its advanced stage of having wedded the ethnic cleansing of Palestine to the consumerist fetishism definitive to American militarism. 

But Americans and non-Americans alike, baffled by the depth of this vulgarity, effectively blind themselves to what this blatant vulgarity conceals and reveals at the same time.

A million drones will not kill the spirit of Islam. If the West failed to destroy Islam in the age of the Colonial Empires, when almost all Muslim nations were under colonial rule by European marauding empires, what made them think they could do it now? In the events that led to the bombing of Libya by USA/NATO forces, the USA promised not to send ground troops to Libya. They are now sending Special Forces allegedly to hunt down Al Qa’eda terrorists that killed the USA’s ambassador and two others (LOL! Al Qa’eda and USA are fighting side-by-side in Syria to unseat Assad). I would have believed that the ambassador was killed by terrorists if not for the series of photos published by MSNBC showing the building on fire. At the same time, the Libyan mob supposedly killed him, but actually dragged him out of the flaming building to safety. Unfortunately, the ambassador and the other two died of smoke inhalation. That the ambassador was helped out of the building is something you will not hear from USA and the presstitute media because they have another agenda in mind. I even heard last night from rense.com radio posted on youtube.com that the ambassador is no ambassador. He was only a consular officer upgraded to ambassadorship for media consumption after his death. Lies! Lies! Lies!

Take note of the fume/smoke remnants on his skin and clothes, and the crowd trying to help him.

This man had his cellular phone to his mouth as he tried to drag the ambassador with both hands to safety.
