SPIRITS: the eager communicators…

SPIRIT OF THE GLASS: eager communicators…

OUIJA BOARD

I was in High School when the Ouija board became the fad. It was known more popularly as “The Spirit of the Glass.” I became so adept at it that I can make the spirit move the glass with only two persons touching the edges of the turned upside-down glass. Every peer group at the Mindanao State University (MSU) Preparatory High School was doing it. Another group claimed that the glass moved even after they had returned the glass to its normal upright position and thanked the spirit for its cooperation. Scared, they scampered away.

We always asked the spirit childish questions like Does she love me too? Will I graduate and so on? I got so tired of the same questions asked over and over; I decided to ask more personal questions concerning the spirit that no one had considered. To my amazement, the spirit was willing to give away information.

Q. If I call the name of someone dead, does he really enter the glass?
A. No.
Q. Who does?
A. There are many of us waiting. We race to the glass. We are very eager to communicate.
Q. Can you really tell the future?
A. No. Your guess is as good as mine.
Q. Can you tell why you died or how you died?
A. Yes.
Q. Can spirits see each other’s?
A. No. Not in the way the living see with their eyes. It can be very lonely sometimes.

I wished I had prepared more questions, but it was a thought that came to mind at the spur of the moment. To convince my roommates in college, I completely covered the eyes of the 3 people touching the glass. I discovered in the process that someone in the group, not necessarily one of those touching the glass, can ask questions and receive a reply. Furthermore, a person can ask the question in his/her mind without the others hearing what is being asked and get an answer just the same. The spirit amazingly can read a person’s mind. It is incredible but true. Skeptics, however, will always find a reason not to believe.

The year was 1976. I was in Laguna with my group doing rural medicine for two weeks. Without better things to do at night, we spent it talking to the spirits via the Ouija Board. Some of us volunteered to be a medium, but we failed. I realize now that to be a medium is a gift. Everything we did was for the gigs. At one time, we were writing down what the spirit was saying on the board. This guy must be joking, we all thought. None of the letters we noted down made sense. One of our female classmates who was busy in the kitchen dropped by. Remember, we were doing it for the fun.

“Oh my God,” she exclaimed.

“What!” we all turned to her. The spirit was speaking in Ilocano, a dialect in the northern Philippines. The spirit claimed he was one of 4 or 6, I cannot remember now, after so many years, that assassinated a prominent political figure in the North while inside the church. To erase their tracks, they were also killed after the assassination.
During one of my turns, I contacted a dead American policeman who claimed to have died in a shootout. He wanted me to write to his family, a wife and two daughters, but I declined.

The last time I ever tried the Ouija Board was in the mid-90s in Saudi Arabia. An Egyptian Colleague and friend insisted that I show him. The ER was quiet. It was hours after midnight. He read and heard about the Ouija Board but never witnessed it. He was very persistent. We tried it for two consecutive nights with some Filipino friends, but we failed. Either I lost the touch, or because…this is Saudi Arabia :-)

LOCKERBIE BOMBING: Case Closed' (?)

This is one glaring example of how USA developed the habit of creating an illusion of truth rather than going after the truth suppressing facts that can muddle the illusion like a movie projector they want the world to see. This documentary is very recent made after Khadaffy’s downfall but before the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Report was released. This is a very powerful 43 minute documentary especially Al Megrahi’s declaration of innocence taken at his sick-bed at the end of the video. Like 9/11; can you imagine what the 80 CCTV cameras in and around the Pentagon would do to the 9/11 illusion that the US government projected to the world? All 80 CCTV cameras recording were confiscated and probably destroyed to forever preserve the Al Qa’eda illusion.

The Lockerbie disaster was Europe's worst terrorist outrage - but was it also Britain's biggest miscarriage of justice?

This film investigates the case against Abdel Baset al-Megrahi and finds evidence to suggest he may have been wrongly accused.

AMAZING; simple creativity with Picasa 3

It’s really amazing what you can do with little creativity. I have been for quite sometimes wanting to buy a photo editing program but not the photo shop thing. I don’t like to alter the photos I like to tinker with except the brightness and color exposure until I discovered Picasa 3. I have the program in my computer for quite sometimes but I never bothered to check what it can do or what I can do with it until recently and wow :-)

MAD MEN: Netanyahu and Barak Forge a Bond on Israel’s Iran Crisis

I think it is righteously appropriate for the world (that is if the people of Israel who want to live in peace not perpetual war cannot do it) to strap these mad-men and haul them to a mental institution before they plunge the world into another conflagration that will again engulf the Middle East with the darkness of war and destruction. How ironic that men so few can so threaten the well being of so many of the planets 7 billion souls so helplessly muted in dread of what these few mad men can do. The effect of such war on the prices of oil alone will end life as we know it probably not permanently but for how long is any body’s guess. It is the nature of my work to heal the sick and bring back the dying from the brink but for once; just this once; I wish that these two men just drop dead or like their predecessor Ariel Sharon (he was about to bomb Iran) to slip into a coma; a living dead.

2 Israeli Leaders Make the Iran Issue Their Own

JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have turned into the odd couple of Israeli politics in whose hands sits the prospect of an attack on Iran. From opposite political traditions with distinct experiences and worldviews, the two have forged a tight bond, often excluding the rest of the Israeli leadership.

SNIP

“On the surface they appear very different,” commented Daniel Ben-Simon, a left-leaning Labor Party member of Parliament who worked with Mr. Barak. “Netanyahu cannot disconnect Israel from the Holocaust. He sees himself as the prime minister of the Jewish people. Barak is the ultimate Israeli, the prince of Zionism. Many thought Barak would rein in Netanyahu on Iran. Instead he joined with him into a two-man show.”
While many here fear a catastrophe if Israel strikes at Iran, Mr. Barak and Mr. Netanyahu increasingly argue that there may be no other option. Their view is that given a choice between an Iran with nuclear weapons — which they say could use them against Israel directly or through proxies, as well as spur a regional arms race — and the consequences of an attack on Iran before it can go nuclear, the latter is far preferable. There will be a counterattack, they say; people will lose their lives and property will be destroyed. But they say it is the lesser of two evils.
“Rockets will fall on this building, but things would be far worse if Iran got the bomb,” said a top former official who has worked for both men, as he sat in a seaside Tel Aviv hotel lobby.
Using Mr. Netanyahu’s nickname, he said: “Bibi is a messianist. He believes with all his soul and every last molecule of his being that he — I don’t quite know how to express it — is King David. He’s not cynical in the least. The cynic here is Barak. The fortunate thing is that Bibi’s a coward. The dangerous thing is that he’s got Barak beside him.”

Lockerbie: Report reveals Megrahi may be innocent

Is this one reason why Gaddafi was murdered by the USA/NATO? Megrahi, the convicted alleged terrorist for the so-called Lockerbie bombing (1988), never confessed to the crime. In fact, he submitted a second appeal to the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission, but he dropped the appeal as one condition for his immediate release on humanitarian grounds. It was when some members of the Scottish Criminal Review Commission started talking to the media, having found the conviction preposterous, that Megrahi was haphazardly released in August 2009. He was diagnosed with prostatic cancer, giving him only 3 months to live at the most. He was asked to drop his appeal (to keep his case from being reviewed) and released. He did not die; he is alive to this day, which made the doctors suspect partners in the scheme, but there is a greater catch; Gaddafi already paid 1.5 billion dollars to the families, with a chunk of the amount going to the US government. If Gaddafi were alive, could he demand the return of the money and additional compensation for the decades of embargo that crippled Libya’s economy and progress? Those families of the victims who celebrated the brutal murder of Gaddafi on television, will they, in their righteous conscience, return the millions of dollars paid to each of them by Gaddafi, whose murder they cheered?

The original suspect was actually Iran but USA cannot drag Iran to the issue without dragging USA to the motives; USA’s navy shooting down in the Gulf of an Iran civilian airline that killed hundreds of innocent Iranians. For Iran, it was a righteous kill…an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth.

Lockerbie: Report reveals Megrahi may be innocent

A Libyan man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing in 1988 may have suffered “a miscarriage of justice”, according to a Scottish authority that reviewed his case.

Its 820-page report, made public on the internet for the first time last Sunday, is the most significant official statement yet giving credibility to Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi’s claim that he is innocent.

The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission cast doubts on the credibility of crucial evidence given by Sliema shopkeeper Tony Gauci, a key prosecution witness, who had identified Mr Megrahi as “the Libyan” who bought clothes from his shop.

After reviewing Mr Gauci’s confused testimony about the day when Mr Megrahi was supposed to have bought the clothes from his shop and the problems related with his identification of the man, the commission said it was of the opinion that “no reasonable trial court could have drawn the inference” that Mr Megrahi was the purchaser of the clothes.

CRUDE DIPLOMACY: history of oil in Saudi Arabia, Iran and the Gulf

There is nothing much in this documentary movie that I did not already read somewhere but wow; the old clips to create a visual history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and her oil relation to USA is a priceless memento for someone who has already spent more than half of his life in this fascinating country. We often puzzle over why KSA is so closely friendly to USA and the answer is I think understandably historically here. It is a 55 minute documentary but the compilations of old news clips are amusingly superb. If you care to understand the historical background of the international politics of oil in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf and Iran; watch this.

DEPOPULATION: 'How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth?'

This is a BBC documentary that every Filipino should watch, especially the people opposed to the RH Bill. While the Bible commanded the first humans to go and procreate, Islam, on the other hand, ordained mankind to be the vicegerent on Earth, a caretaker of the planet, so to speak. What use is our intelligence, God’s greatest gift that separates us from animals, if we don’t use our judgment and reason to maintain planet Earth like our own house, if we don’t keep it tidy and livable? Filipinos developed the habit of always blaming someone for their misfortunes, including God, when there is really no one to blame but themselves. The greatest threat to our well-being is us. We blame God, we blame the government, we blame our neighbor, but never me, not I.

This documentary is about how many people the planet can support, but hey, you need not look beyond the borders. How many people can the Philippine archipelago support? Not to mention that in the next fifty years, many of our Islands will be submerged in the sea, never to reappear in low or high tides, and the rising sea will likewise chop a big chunk of our coastlines, including densely populated cities and overcrowded slums.  The population is increasing while the land is shrinking.

Environmentalist Propaganda? (I Don't Think So)

Over the next ten years, the Earth will need to accommodate another 3 billion human beings - that's more than the current populations of Europe, Africa, North and South America - combined.

Although some folks believe that notions of a population crisis are environmentalist propaganda (I don't agree), this BBC documentary with David Attenborough is a shockingly well-made and beautiful portrait of life on Earth, regardless of one's position.

Naturalist David Attenborough investigates whether the world is heading for a population crisis. The human population has more than doubled from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 7 billion today. Attenborough reflects on the profound effects of this rapid growth, both on humans and the environment.

While much of the projected growth in the human population is likely to come from the developing world, the lifestyle enjoyed by many in the West has the most impact on the planet. Some experts in this documentary claim that in the United Kingdom, consumers use as much as two and a half times their fair share of Earth's resources.

Is it the duty of individuals to commit not only to smaller families but to change the way they live for the sake of humanity and planet Earth?
